Big snappers caught while kite fishing is always a bonus!

Big snappers caught while kite fishing is always a bonus!

Well, it looks as if fishing may have taken a turn for the better this week. We had numerous anglers report catches of snapper while fishing the kites. This is actually really good news because it confirms that the water is changing. We have had horrendous fishing for the last several weeks and most of that is due to transition in water quality around the reefs out to the gulf stream waterway. We have had cold pockets of water that shut down most fishing. Now that we are seeing bottom fish such as snapper being caught it's let us know that the water quality salinity and all of the other ingredients that make fishing good is on the rise. Now that we see snapper and reef fish of this quality we will start to see better fishing overall. One fishery is linked to the next fishery and yes, it is very interesting. Most wahoo caught this week we're in the 20-to-25-pound range which is a bit bigger than the last few weeks. The best of the wahoo bite was shallow in 150 feet of water the biggest wahoo were all caught on live bait. "Native Son" boated a beautiful fish a few days back.
Farther offshore in the gulf stream water the swordfish bite was very good this week. Chris Huff aboard "Just the Tip" boated 2 fish and had three other bites. This is a great sign for swordfisherman. The bite should stay good for a few months.
