Picture here is Bill Mclennagan charter with a table full of wonderful eating fish from a charter a few days back. This is a great sign because we are seeing changes to the normal catches along the coast. Cobia Wahoo and Tuna are three of the best eating fish in the ocean. These fish were all caught between 200 and 300 feet of water. Everything you see other than the snapper were caught trolling at 8 knots of speed with bonito strips and planers. To top off the trip we dropped for vermilion snapper which are the red ones towards the front. They are excellent eating and we catch them in depths of 200 to 300 feet of water. The exciting part of the cobia is that we are seeing them move onto the wrecks and reefs. Cobia is by far one of my favorite fish to eat as it is very similar to a pork chop! It has a smooth finish to the fillet. It is not flaky like a Grouper or Snapper. The one thing I love about cobia is you never get a bone in your fish. I am really weird when it comes to getting a bone by accident in my fish. If I get a bone, it's over! I cannot enjoy the rest of the meal thinking going to stick myself with a bone. Most people have no problem with that but me I cannot have it so cobia is definitely a go to for me. The swordfish bite was also very good all week and yes the swordfish meat is similar to a cobia in that it is very forgiving when it comes to bones. A great piece of swordfish and cobia top my list of fish to eat.
