Now that's a serious haul of fish.

Now that's a serious haul of fish.

We are coming into the time of the season where the bottom fishing really gets good. You're looking at a picture from last weekend of a trip I did with Captain Kody Michael out of Key West. He is a true master of  bottom fishing. What makes somebody such a good bottom fisherman you might ask? Kody is an avid free diver spearing everything from wahoo to giant grouper. Kody understands the bottom structure and fish as a whole. He's really connected with the moon and its effect on these bottom fish. He explained to me that on the backside of the moon after the full moon a lot of the groupers and snappers will move out to deeper water. I am not sure if that is true for the fish out here on our reefs, but quite frankly, I didn't know the fish would leave and then come back halfway through the next moon. I learned more in one day of fishing with Capt Kody than I really have learned about bottom fishing my whole life! Reach out to us if you are interested in fishing with Captain Kody. Closer to home the fishing was decent, but not fantastic! This is supposed to be the best time for catching tuna, mahi, and kingfish but last week it was hit or miss. I did see a lot of anglers catching smaller mahi nearshore but overall the wahoo and kingfish bite was slow. The wind looks like it is going to blow through the weekend and hopefully that shakes things up a bit.
