Fishing should be excellent with the full moon.

Pictured here is my buddy Cade with his first wahoo ever! We actually had three wahoo bites but missed the other two. We hooked a doubleheader in 500 feet of water.

Around the full moon, you will definitely get more bites from wahoo, but it seems to vary day to day. Usually, the best of it is from two days before until two days after the full moon, but the bite started a little early this week.

The mahi fishing has been excellent offshore, about 15 miles from the beach. We are noticing bigger fish this year than usual, with fish up to 25 pounds. In the last few years, most mahi almost had to be measured to make sure they met the legal size limit.

As I am writing this report, we are trolling in about 1,000 feet of water. The current on the reef out to about 200 feet was moving toward the south, so it was a bit choppy where the wind and current were moving in opposite directions. We found the edge of the current at about 600 feet, and the ocean got beautiful.

If you are fishing this weekend and the seas are choppy near shore, you may want to try going a bit deeper to find cleaner blue water if the water is dirty. The seaweed hasn’t been too bad offshore, but it has been really patchy near the coast. It seems like the heavy seaweed runs out to about 400 feet of water. This will change daily.

I just got a report that guys fishing off Boca were catching quite a few sailfish in around 200 feet of water on live bait. The great thing about fishing in Florida is that it changes all the time. One day you’re a hero, and the next day you get skunked. I guess that’s the beauty of fishing, and that’s why they call it fishing and not catching.
