Local fishing remains steady as seaweed continues.

Pictured here are Leo and Charlie (left to right) holding up a jack crevalle that we caught on our last Mission Fishin’ trip. We struggled to troll because of the seaweed, so we decided to try bottom fishing in the shallower water, around 50 feet deep.

We caught a few big triggerfish when we noticed a flock of frigatebirds diving relatively close by. We grabbed the jigging rods, threw into the area, and hooked into jacks and bonito. Leo caught his first five fish in a ten-minute span, sealing the deal for the day.

The bottom fishing was good for the fleet, with some smaller snapper and grouper landed. Throughout the week, anglers put up catches of wahoo and mahi, and the weed thinned out beyond 500 feet of water. Mike Busse from Lighthouse Point put 20 mahi in the box while swordfishing out in the deep.

We had very few reports of swordfish caught, as the current was screaming well offshore. Guys struggled to hold their baits near the bottom with all of the Gulf Stream movement. The strongest Gulf Stream currents always occur during the summer months.

Ari Albinder of Lighthouse Point Cleaners boated a 70-pound wahoo caught in 350 feet of water while trolling. Hopefully, the fishing remains consistent throughout the weekend!
