Local fishing blows up after the full moon.

It is absolutely crazy and unexplainable to see the effects that the moon has on fishing. Most species of fish seem to feed heavier around the full moon and the new moon. I don't know if it has to do with gravitational pull or what, but the tides around these two phases are the strongest. Maybe the flow of the tide is providing more oxygen to the fish and this gets them fired up. Sometimes the fishing fires up the day before the full moon and sometimes it's two days after. You never really know what day it will be but this picture shows a catch on a charter aboard the "Lisa B" thus past week three days after the full moon. Tuna, bonito, wahoo, mahi and sailfish all were biting as the local charter fleet put up great catches. We have several customers that book the boat our boat for charters consistently around the full and new moon cycles. The mahi bite offshore was great all week with anglers catching fish up to 15 pounds. Most of the seaweed was patchy so most boats ran from patch to patch looking for fish. If you have a live well you may want to bring a few live baits with you as this will help get the mahi fired up. They sell live baits at the Lighthouse Point Marina (Port 32).

The swordfish bite was consistent this week but most fish were on the smaller side under 100 pounds.
