Meat fishing season is about to kick off so get ready!

Pictured here is my buddy George Goedz with a fat blackfin tuna caught a few days back. This is a great sign as George fishes primarily out of Stuart. What this tells me is that the fish are traveling in our direction. You will notice fishing catches increase over the next few weeks. Wahoo, mahi-mahi, and plenty of big kings will be put in the dock all over the South Florida area. This is also the time when we see local meat fish tournament season kicks off. Anglers from Palm Beach to Key West will be battling it out for big money.

The one thing I can say is that there is definitely transitional time to fishing seasons. It is not exciting to talk about but is this something to definitely take into account. The reason I'm saying this is that we notice that when fishing slows lots of boat owners do required maintenance and or bottom painting due to the slow fishing. It is definitely a great time to haul your boat and do work without missing the bite so keep that in mind for next year.

Farther offshore the swordfish bite remained consistent for the anglers willing to brave the sea conditions. Fish were caught up to 300 pounds and the bait of choice this week was the squid tentacle. The bite was a bit deeper ranging from 1700 to 1850 feet of water. The sword bite should stay active for several more weeks.

Crossing our fingers for the bite!
