Prize catches as the west wind pushes the seaweed offshore.

We finally got a reprieve this week from the seaweed near shore, which made it so fun to troll again without having to stop the boat and clear the seaweed every five minutes. The wahoo and blackfin tuna bite has been great around this full moon and we expect to see some nice fish caught this weekend. The best of the bite was in about 250 feet of water. Some guys will be using live bait while others continue to troll planers targeting the wahoo and tuna. Boats did catch mahi-mahi all week up to 12 pounds, but had to go out to at least a depth of 600 to 800 feet which is fine with me. Farther offshore, the weeds were scattered and it was tough to fish for swordfish. There were a few nice fish caught, but the seaweed was brutal! Pictured here is first mate Will Fasullo holding up a blackfin tuna with the days crew aboard "Lisa B". This fish weighs close to 25 pounds and was caught on the long planer with a blue and black sea witch paired with a mylar witch under and a bonito strip. This is a great weekend to get out fishing but I would concentrate your efforts in the morning as the late afternoon storms have been pretty intense. If you're heading farther offshore, please let somebody know what time you will be back and constantly check the radar for the storms that pop up.
