If you are only going to get a few bites on a fishing trip you hope they are from quality edible fish. That happened to be the case earlier this week as the sea conditions picked up to 4–6-foot seas. Fishing was slow but thankfully a wahoo and nice sized mahi made the day aboard the "Lisa B". These bites came in 300 feet of water while trolling.
We are looking at an approaching weather front this weekend. We will experience wind changes from southeast to west to northeast as the front pushes through. The one good thing is that the ocean will be relatively flat during the west wind stage. We may sneak out Saturday or Sunday, but we will be watching the weather carefully. We will fish close to land on the westerly winds. The farther you travel east the rougher the sea conditions will be. We may get a decent sailfish bite when the front pushes through but that may be best Monday or Tuesday.
Farther offshore the swordfish were biting. Jamie Bunn and his crew landed a beautiful swordfish before dark a few days back. The fish was hooked in 1650 feet of water off Port Everglades on a bonito strip bait. The weekend bite should be good but be sure to check the offshore weather before committing.
Check the weather!
