Sailfish are still chewing close to shore.

Sailfish are still chewing close to shore.

I know it has been a bit choppy over the last few days, but the sailfish are still biting. Anglers are catching sails while trolling and using kites and live bait. The best of the action has been between 125 and 200 feet of water. Pictured here are father and son Jack and Jack Sheeran junior getting ready to release a beautiful sailfish aboard the "Lisa B". They are forecasting the wind to back off to 10-15 knots on Sunday, but we are hoping it backs off sooner. We are planning on fishing kites right outside the Hillsboro inlet. It's a very short run and this gets us fishing quickly. We don't need to run very far to see good action. Over the last several days wahoo have been caught consistently inside of 250 feet of water. Capt. Eddie Walters on the "Reel Addiction", "Don't Panic"and "Killin Time" had nice catches of wahoo. The wahoo bite has been so consistent over the last few months.Farther offshore several boats braved to elements in pursuit of a swordfish. The boats that made the 20 mile run were greeted with excellent fishing. Swordfish up to 200 pounds hit the deck. The best bait for swords right now has been the bonito on the tip rod and the ladyfish on the buoy. Several anglers ask me if double hooks is better for swords. I personally like single hooks but we do have customers that we rig doubles for. When swordfish are in an eating phase I dont really think it matters. The one thing I will say is that if the hooks are too far apart double hooks can work against you as the top hook can actually work as a dehooker.
