Pictured here is Cade Lavengco and Michael Weldon with a beautiful wahoo caught a few days back between rainstorms. In a shortened 3-hour trip they not only bagged this wahoo but some blackfin tuna and a sailfish. these fish were caught off Boca while trolling planers. The one thing you definitely have to watch out for in the summertime is thunderstorms. Usually, they fire up later in the day but over the last few days morning showers have been abundant. It looks as if we have some serious weather in the gulf right now so if you are going to venture offshore this weekend be sure to have all safety equipment in check. Other things to consider checking would be your bilge pumps, radio, and radar. I would also suggest sharing a float plan which would include a returning time back to the dock. Bad things can happen quickly during these powerful squalls.
With the unstable barometer due to storms, we're really not sure how the fishing is going to be this weekend. Throughout the week, the kingfish and tuna bite was mediocre, but a few big wahoo were caught. Offshore the swordfish bite was slow this week and with the approaching weather I would be hesitant to run far offshore.
We will have a better feel for weekend fishing so tune into Big 105.9 the Paul Castronovo Papas Pilar Fishing report with RJ Boyle at 6:20 AM on Friday morning.
Stay safe!
