Pictured here is a table full of bonito and large kingfish caught earlier this week aboard the "Lisa B". This trip was another gratis trip for military veterans through Mission Fishin. We kept the boys busy as the bonito were fierce between 100 and 200 feet of water. Mixed in to the bonito were some big kingfish that we cut up for the smoker. The fishing was very interesting as boats were catching mahi-mahi every day until last Monday. It was almost as if a light switch went off and shut off the mahi bite. It was great to see the mahi bite while it lasted and we are hoping we get another push through the summer months. The blackfin tuna bite remains consistent and we will see an increase in the wahoo bite with the arrival of the bonito schools.
One catch worth mentioning recently was in the Trashcan Slam Tournament that benefit's autism. Boys aboard the Off the Wall/Skirt Chaser boat fought and landed a yellowfin tuna weighing in at 116 pounds. This fish was hooked off Delray fought for over three hours and landed off of Boynton beach. The fish was caught on a 20-pound spinning rod with 30-pound fluorocarbon leader! What a fantastic catch! Hooking a fish like this is special but landing it is another story. This crew is the best of the best in our local fishing community. The crew consisted of Zach Mahfood, Shane Oconnor, Robbie Clawges, Buddy Tight, Jimmy Tight, Mike Zislin, and Chris Sherman.
Congrats!
