Swordfish and wahoo are top catches this week!

Swordfish and wahoo are top catches this week!

Author RJ Boyle
Earlier this week we ventured offshore in pursuit of a swordfish. We felt like we had a limited window as the moon was looking to set at 11:30. The setting of the moon is one of the best times to get a bite. Once the moon sets, we have noticed that the bite slows drastically until the moon rises. It's crazy to think that the moon has this kind of effect on fishing, but we see it throughout the different fisheries. We fished aboard the "Lisa B" with first timers Brent and Dan from Cleveland and Montana. Neither man had ever caught a sword. As the moon set, we got our bite in the buoy rod and 45 minutes later we landed a beautiful 150lb swordfish and our mission was accomplished.
Farther near shore the wahoo and sailfish bite continues to be consistent with wahoo averaging around 25lbs. A few larger fish pushed 40lbs. The best of the wahoo bite was a bit deeper around 350 feet of water. Ari Albinder caught two wahoo out of Hillsboro inlet on back-to-back days!
For an up to the minute fishing report tune in to Big 105.9 the Paul Castronovo Papas Pilar fishing report on Friday mornings at 6:15am.
Stay tight!
