The east wind is stirring up the ocean for a hot weekend bite!

The east wind is stirring up the ocean for a hot weekend bite!

The fishing was hit or miss this week. Most anglers caught one or two quality fish during trips taken in the middle of the week. Mahi-mahi up to 20 pounds and wahoo ranging between 15 and 30 pounds seemed to be the prize. Overall, the bite did diminish this week, but that may be due to lack of participation because of rough seas offshore. This weekend's weather is looking stellar and as I write this article anglers are rigging tackle anticipating great fishing this weekend. Check the marine weather but as of now the winds look to be around 5-10 knots. Lots of guys will be crossing over to fish in the Bahamas this weekend looking for wahoo after this full moon.

The fish pictured here were caught while planer fishing at around eight knots locally and he best depth for fishing this week was around 250 feet of water but keep an eye out for weedlines and color changes this weekend as the seas subside. You may even want to go offshore to see if there's any floating debris from the storm last week. There should be plenty of mahi within 15 miles of the beach. "Native Son" out of Lighthouse Point caught multiple sailfish on several charters this week so if you're going to look for a billfish you may want to consider catching or purchasing live bait and using a kite.
