Fish are biting locally and in Costa Rica!

Fish are biting locally and in Costa Rica!

Author RJ Boyle
As I am writing this report, we are trolling off the coast of Costa Rica catching billfish and tuna. This is the time of the year boats gear up for traveling around the globe for the summer. Lots of our customers frequent the Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Mexico, and other countries in pursuit of gamefish. It's an exciting time both abroad and locally as the tournaments here heat up and the fishing gets good. Locally the fishing was excellent this week with fantastic catches of mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, wahoo and an occasional cobia. Anglers are using both live bait and trolled baits. The best of the fishing was between 200 and 300 feet of water. Farther offshore the swordfish bite is going off. John Michael Lavergne out of Lighthouse point landed a fish over 500 pounds two days ago. The best bait for swordfish this week was the bonito strip. The Trashcan Slam tournament will be held out of Taha Marine in Pompano this Saturday. This tournament benefits autism and has been going on for years. If you get a chance, come check out the weigh in right next to the Atlantic Boulevard bridge in Pompano after 3pm.
