The mahi and wahoo bite is still red hot and should last a bit longer with the big moon.

As I'm writing this article, I'm still wondering how we have not had a named storm throughout the summer months. I guess El Niño really had an effect on the West Coast with all those storms. Usually, we're out looking for floating debris from storms this time of year. We're still getting the floating debris, but there are no storms!

Over the last week, lots of anglers have enjoyed some of the best mahi fishing of the year, catching fish up to 30 pounds locally. The best of the bite was about 10 miles offshore. Weed lines are stacked up, and fish are on most of the bigger patches. Most guys were catching them while trolling, while others were using the run-and-gun method with live bait, simply stopping on the biggest patches and starting to fish.

Hopefully, I didn't jinx us by saying we haven't had a storm, but I sure love not having to prepare for those big hurricanes!

Closer to shore, the wahoo bite was excellent right around the full moon this week and should continue through the weekend.

Pictured with the wahoo is Captain Manny with his charter aboard the Two Conchs out of Port 32 in Lighthouse Point, showing off a 56-pound wahoo! This fish ate a trolled bonito strip on the planer rod.

Pictured with the mahi on the table is a group we've been charter fishing with for years aboard the Lisa B. Bill Bouck and the guys charter the boat once every month, right around the full moon, and they usually catch a box full of fish.

We'll be out looking for a swordfish over the next three days, so if you're looking for a swordfish report, tune in to Big 105.9 for the Paul Castronovo Papa's Pilar Fishing Report on Friday morning at 6:15 AM.

Tight lines,
