Pictured here is a catch aboard the "Reel Addiction" and captain Eddie Walters out of Hillsboro inlet. Captain Eddie said that he caught these fish while trolling and livebaiting. These fish were caught between 120 and 250 feet of water which is a great sign. We will see blackfin tuna catches increase over the next several weeks. The tuna size will also increase up to around 30 pounds. The consistent east wind flow of wind has pushed the mahi close to shore, so you won't have to travel far out. You will have to deal with big patches of seaweed if you plan on trolling, so bringing live bait could be the call. I would suggest trolling for a limited amount of time and then deploying the kites and or drifting the live bait between 100 and 200 feet of water. The bite has been best first thing in the morning and right before sunset so getting an early start may be the ticket this weekend. We have a 15 knot east southeast wind forecast this weekend so be careful and make sure all of your safety equipment is in check including your radio. On a safety note, always call for a radio check to make sure that your radio is working. Most people never really check the radio, especially smaller boats that don't call bridges. We see lots of small center console boats that fishing in rough conditions so be sure to check your equipment.
