Pictured here is a beautiful wahoo we caught a few days back the day before the full moon. Wahoo fishing is usually fantastic just before and after the full moon. This is a 50-pound wahoo and we were lucky enough to catch this fish in only 90 feet of water. We caught this fish while trolling planers at 8 knots and using bonito strips. Most of the wahoo caught this day and during the beginning of the week were between 190 and 225 feet of water. This weekend's weather looks fantastic with a southeast wind at 10 to 15 knots which is perfect for this area. Several anglers also hooked up to sailfish and smaller tuna. Farther offshore the swordfish bite should be excellent as we are in the migratory months for big fish. We did not have any reports of mahi-mahi, but there were several weed lines between 200 and 400 feet so keep an eye out.
If you are traveling to the Bahamas to fish for wahoo this weekend, be sure to check in and follow all customs, rules and regulations. Authorities have been cracking down on angler's not clearing customs.
