Pictured here is a trip earlier this week out of Lighthouse point. In addition to what you see here they released another 10 to 15 fish that were too small to keep. This weekend the weather looks calm and excellent for fishing. If you are heading offshore be sure to stop on some of the patches of seaweed that you will see. We find ourselves running not trolling to the different large patches of seaweed and then putting out the baits, concentrating our efforts around the thicker mats of floating grass. We called this type of fishing running and gunning! A few blue Marlin have been hooked this week as they are also looking for a free meal underneath the seaweed. Marlin love to eat mahi-mahi. Here is one tip for trolling for mahi-mahi around tons of seaweed. If it is unfishable and you keep getting seaweed on your hook, try trolling two ballyhoo or small lures without hooks. Mahi-mahi will attack these baits and lures but will not get stung. When they swim up to these lures or baits, cast a spinning rod with a hooked bait at the same time behind the they can't resist it once they've had a free meal.
The swordfish bite remains excellent offshore with fish being caught up to 300 pounds. Flat calm seas sure makes for a nice day on the swordfish grounds.
