RJ Boyle Painted Swordfish Bills
I’ve been painting swordfish bills for over 25 years, and it all started as a way to help anglers remember their catch in a more personal, lasting way. In my opinion, it’s the best way to commemorate a big catch. Each bill is cleaned, preserved, and hand-painted by me—no two are ever the same. A lot of people choose to add details like the date, angler names, fish weight, and even a photo of the moment to make it even more meaningful. It’s more than just a trophy—it’s a way to hold onto the memory of that catch for a lifetime.
Designs
Over the years, I’ve painted thousands of custom designs—each one telling a unique story. On each product page, you’ll find my 15 most popular design options, chosen from the artwork anglers have loved most. Whether you're into bold colors, classic layouts, or something a little more personalized, there’s something here for everyone.
If you have a vision that goes beyond what you see, I'm always happy to create something completely custom. Just reach out to us at graphics@rjboyle.com—I'd love to bring your idea to life.

The Process
Creating a custom-painted swordfish bill is an intense, hands-on process that can take many months depending on the state of the bill. Each bill has to be fully cured—stripped of every bit of flesh, oil, and moisture—to prepare it for paint. Then it’s hand-sanded until smooth. Once the artwork is finished, it’s coated with multiple layers of resin—each taking hours to cure. From start to finish, it’s an extensive process, but the result is a one-of-a-kind trophy built to honor your catch for a lifetime. There's truly nothing like it!
