RJ Boyle Pelagic Planers

The RJ Boyle Pelagic Planer is designed to get your trolling baits down into the strike zone when targeting wahoo, kingfish, tuna, and other offshore pelagic species. Featuring a flat black anodized finish, this trolling planer reduces the flash associated with traditional shiny planers, helping prevent unwanted strikes from toothy fish like wahoo and barracuda.

Choosing the Right Planer Size

RJ recommends adjusting your planer sizes throughout the day based on where the fish are feeding in the water column.

• Morning Fishing: Use a #4 planer on the long rod and a #6 planer on the short rod when fish are higher in the water column.

• Midday Fishing: As the sun gets higher and fish move deeper into cooler water, switch to a #4-6 planer on the long rod and a #8 planer on the short rod.

The Pelagic Planer is designed to dive and pull your bait deeper when engaged, allowing you to target fish at different depths while trolling.
